Maritime Festival Returns
The East End Seaport Museum & Marine Foundation and Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital are ready to present the 34th Annual Maritime Festival weekend Sept. 21 – 22, 2024.
The annual Land & Sea Gala was held a week early last weekend, but Maritime week continues this week with the arrival of the Tall Ship Ernestina Morrisey on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The ship will be in port through Sept. 23 with public sails available for purchase and deck tours during the festival weekend. The ship is docked behind the museum on the commercial dock at 100 Third Street Greenport 11944. Here’s more info.
For the first time this year, the festival is hosting Community Day on Friday Sept. 20. The community is welcome to come to Mitchell Park and watch/help as the park begins to get set up with boats, and exhibitions. The Greenport Band will be on hand to provide music to the community beginning at 5 p.m..
The festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21 and Sunday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring local craft food/beverage vendors, food trucks, live music, performances by Sea Shanty singers, wine & beer tastings, oyster tasting, visiting tall ship deck tours, USAF National Guard Demonstration, Delilah is a life-sized inflatable North Atlantic right whale!
The festival spans the Greenport Village downtown and the harbor, including the famous Mitchell Park, which is home to a hundred-year-old antique carousel. A variety of maritime events will take place for adults and children throughout both days, including free arts and crafts at Captain Kidd’s Alley and a treasure chest. The East End Seaport Museum and the North Fork Arts Center have partnered to offer a viewing of the movie “Hook,” free for up to 295 people on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Special highlights for the weekend include:
- On Saturday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m., the Maritime Parade “steps off.” Line-up begins at 10 a.m.on Broad Street & Main Street and will be led by the Grand Marshals, family-run Douglass Marine, followed by the Merry Merfolk, school organizations, civic groups and many other organizations. The Merry Merfolk contest will take place in Mitchell park at Noon. To participate, contact Joe Corso jcorso1@outlook.com or just come line up at 10 a.m.
- A Kayak Race will be held Saturday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. — with registration prior behind Port restaurant.
- A Snapper Fishing Contest will be held on Sunday, Sept. 22, with two age brackets — under 8 & 9 to 16 years.

- Drawing for Stony Brook ELIH’s Dream Green fundraising with top prize of $50,000. Tickets available during Festival weekend.
