Make the Peconic Estuary Your Valentine

This Valentine’s Day week, join the National Estuary Program to show Congress and the Administration that there is a LOT of love for estuaries and let our leaders know that protecting estuaries means protecting our future.

In order to demonstrate support for key federal program that benefit estuaries and to raise awareness among Congress and the Administration, Restore America’s Estuaries, the National Estuarine Research Reserve Association, and the Association of National Estuary Programs are joining forces to celebrate Valentine’s Day through their annual three-day “I Heart Estuaries” campaign.

Many key federal programs, including the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s Coastal Coastal Program, NOAA’s National Estuarine Resesrach Reserve System, Community-Based Restoration Program, and Coastal Resilience Grants, and EPA’s National Estuary Program are critical to ensuring we have healthy coastal waters and vibrant coastal communities.

So how do you get involved?? All you need to do is use the hashtag #iheartestuaries on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram between Feb. 12 and Feb. 14. You can take a look at the National Estuary Program’s sample posts here or get creative with your own version. Tell the world why you love our estuaries and what they mean to you. It is Valentine’s Day, after all, so spread the love.
